Such a bummer that the show got cancelled, and on such a cliffhanger too!

Quick recap: Caleb Covington is the baddie who wants to force the Phantoms to sing/perform for his club. He cursed them, but they were able to break the curse. So he possesses Nick (Julie's love interest) in the last episode, presumably to get face time with Julie.

I want Nick to be alive inside his body and seeing everything that Caleb is doing! I want him to be screaming at Julie, trying to get out, trying to stop Caleb from influencing her. Meanwhile, Caleb is asking more and more questions about the Phantoms. He already knows Julie is the key, and that they'd all be devastated if she broke up the band (and then people wouldn't even get to see them anymore?). Caleb would somehow convince Julie that she needed to strike out on her own because the guys are sick of her, "Nick" becomes her new manager, but then Caleb makes a mistake and calls her something weird, or says something to the Phantoms when no one else can see them, and Julie realizes he hasn't been Nick all along.

Cue Caleb jumping into another body, maybe Julie's Dad. But now that they're onto him, it's way easier to find him. The Phantoms come up with a way to keep him from possessing everyone. Meanwhile, Nick feels like shit and we get to see a bunch of angst with him apologizing and helping the Phantoms figure out their unfinished business. My theory is that each of them have their own unfinished business, and they aren't going to be able to solve it together as a band. Then they all get to sing their big finale song!!

We can't have a JatP post without the music! I love the ending song Stand Tall (and I still listen to it) but I think my favorite from the show is Edge of Great:

What's your favorite?

comments

Last 3 TV shows I watched:

•9-1-1 Lone Star Series Finale: Finally, a lovely happy ending! This last season was not my favorite, but I liked how they tied everything together at the end. Except for Grace & Judd, I was sad we didn't at least get to see her again.

•Doctor Odyssey Finale: Boo! How could they break up my OT3 like that! After all of the really fun and really progressive relationship explorations this season, I thought they did Tristan dirty at the end :( But at least they ended with the three of them on the pool deck together.

•Surreal Estate 2.02: Hilarious and fun and spooky too. The season 2 premiere didn't grab me but this episode had a bunch of heart and I'm re-invested :D

Next 3 TV shows I want to (re)watch:

•Surreal Estate Season 2
•Umbrella Academy final season
•A rewatch for a fic exchange

Last 3 albums I listened to:

• Greetings from Your Hometown by Jonas Brothers ♥ Many new bangers that I love. Backwards is my current favorite.

• Man's Best Friend by Sabrina Carpenter. The sarcasm about men being shit but still expecting the sexiest girls - such scathing and deserved commentary. Especially the track Tears!. No one is really doing it like her. Although I think I like the previous album better.

• Gold Star Baby by The Aces. A disco album! A lot of the lyrics make me laugh, too. Favorite track is Spending the Night.

Next 3 albums I want to listen to:

• Demi Lovato's new album It's Not That Deep comes out October 24!
• 5 Seconds of Summer's new album Everyone's a Star! comes out November 14!
• Conan Gray??
Feeling like shit emotionally lately, not sure why. Maybe it's because I keep reading my NYT email every morning (and I should stop). Also our closing date for our house keeps getting moved because of all these little inspection-related things that hadn't been completed, and now I have to pay a fee to keep our rate locked or else we'd have to push it back even more. Super frustrating. I just want to get my stuff out of storage and sleep in my own bed and feel like a real adult again :/ My muse has also fled the scene but I've got to get my ass in gear so that I can sign up for ficinabox! It's probably my favorite exchange of the year.

In toddler news, she loves to say, "See you next 'morrow!" and she calls Gatorade "Grata", both of which I find very amusing.

I've listened to Reneé Rap's new album Bite Me. It is very high-energy and a lot of the songs are about love triangles and cheating, which makes me super curious about her personal life LOL. It does get a tad bit repetitive overall. My favorite track is Why Is She Still Here? Other stand-outs are good girl and mad.

We have to buy a new washer/dryer for our new house so I've been doing research on washing machines. This article about Washing Machine Settings made me think I've been using washing machines wrong this whole time. I hardly ever used cold setting but I think I should do it more. Also, I want a top-loading machine like we had at our last house but I'm also worried about saving space. Would anyone recommend their washer/dryer?

comments

This is the second solo album from Joe Jonas (the last one was in 2011) and this one is a stark departure from Fastlife. Every song feels so unique and heartfelt, and I think the lyrics showcase Joe's storytelling ability. I went through every emotion listening to this whole album, from dancing (only love) to laughing (Sip your wine) to crying (My Own Best Friend) to swooning (heart by heart). He's credited with writing 12 of the 14 tracks, which speaks to just how personally invested he is in this album. Three singles were released from the album: Work It Out, What This Could Be, and Heart by Heart. They are all worth a listen.

Hey Beautiful is obviously about his daughters, and it's such a sweet and lush song. He collaborated with his youngest brother Frankie on the dance-y track Velvet Sunshine that's not my favorite but it's still fun and slightly manic. Work It Out seems to be about his divorce from Sophie Turner, and I like the introspection in the lyrics and the way he doesn't shy away from calling himself out - he specifically mentions his depression/mental health struggles. You Got the Right makes me smile because I think the turn of phrase is very clever. To me, it captures how it feels once you fall in love and you're at that person's mercy. You don't have control over your feelings, even if they don't feel the same, and there's an inherent beauty in that - unrequited love is still something special.

( My two favorite tracks under the cut )

comments

I love the song, and when I first heard it I thought it had such a great message about being humble/remembering where you came from. But the music video is this huge musical production that feels a bit sterile and very distant from the lyrics.

7. Would you wear a t-shirt of a band you're not into?

No, because I wouldn't want to answer awkward questions about the shirt :P

8. Is there an artist or song that you like, despite being of a genre you don't usually like?

I like Andy Black's solo work, but I don't really listen to emo or Black Veil Brides (maybe I should?).

10. A song or album from the 50s or earlier:

21. A song or album from this year or last year:

Music for People Who Believe in Love by Joe Jonas ♥ There's only one song I'm not crazy about on the entire album.

22. What’s your favorite song or album from the year you where born?

28. Have you ever made/got a mixtape as gift to/from a friend?

Of course! This was so common, I remember burning CDs for my friends for their birthdays or special events in high school. I think the last time I got a burned CD was from a boyfriend in college, but it wasn't a mixtape - just a copy of a CD.

35. A song you like in a language you don’t speak:

No idea what's being said, but it's so lovely!

38. Which was the first concert you went to?

I'm not entirely sure but probably a band that was playing for free at the Fair. Maybe Tower of Power?

40. Which was the best concert you’ve ever been to?

Fall Out Boy was super fun - that also had a lot to do with the crowd but they sounded so good. Brooks and Dunn had such an impressive stage production - even from the cheap seats it looked fantastic and every song had a cohesive theme, plus I loved their banter. And then I have to mention the very first Jonas Brothers show I ever went to, when they weren't famous and Joe jumped into the small crowd and serenaded everyone with "Mandy" and it was totally incredible.

42. Your favorite(s) “no skips” album(s):

Badlands by Halsey (2019). Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer (2018).

49. Is there a cover you like more than the original version?

Of course the original (1975) is great, but The Chicks cover of Landslide is SO epic imo (2002).

56. A song/album/artist you wish you could forget so you could have the experience of hearing it for the first time again:

A Little Bit Longer by Jonas Brothers in 2008. This was the album that launched their career into superstar territory and I really remember every single song on that album. It came at just the right time in my life and it made me feel so understood. That album was so important to me, it's hard to capture how amazing it felt to listen to it for the first time but I'd gladly feel all that again :)</details>

comments

I watched the prequel Jujutsu Kaisen movie and it was so good! I can't remember the last time I watched an animated movie that I liked but they really did a great job with the fight scenes. And I loved that they cut down on the inner monologues. Plus I unlocked more Gojo backstory and he's got an ex-bestie turned arch nemesis! Very fun.

I finished Dead Boy Detectives. Now I'm sad it's over. The last three episodes really came together and the characters became so much more concrete to me. Their version of hell was actually creepy, which I really liked. It would have been fun to have a season two in London.

Day 9 of the song challenge - A song that makes you want to dance: Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest!!

Day 10 - A song about drugs or alcohol: Hallucinogenics by Matt Maeson.
I recently finished reading Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater. SO SO good! Ronan was my favorite character from The Raven Cycle trilogy already, but this book still blew me away. I loved Jordan & Hennessy. Declan Lynch!! He's one of those characters I can't adequately explain how much I love. I relate to him, he is me, he is so different from me, he's also sexy as hell? Like I said, it's hard to say.

Also almost finished watching Jujutsu Kaisen season 1. I literally laughed out loud at several parts, but it's also dark and gory and intense. Megumi Fushiguro is still my favorite. Itadori/Fushiguro though ♥

Here are three more songs for the 30 days 30 songs challenge: ( under the cut )

comments

I've actually come to appreciate that part of Masters of the Air much more, since the air war had been going on way before D-Day and it seems like they were trying to make that point by glossing over the ground invasion.

Title Tag Game Rules: write out any fic titles you have that are based off of lyrics, list what songs they're from, <s>and tag some writers!</s> :-) (if you don't have a lot of finished fics, you can include your wips, or if you have way too many to list out, pick your faves!)

These are the last five fics I wrote with song lyric titles:

1. Drew the Line Right Through You - from Katy Perry's song Never Really Over (RNM, Max/Kyle)
2. A Home For All Seasons - from Sia's song Snowman (Band of Brothers, Johnny/Bull)
3. Snowfall Kind of Girl - from Ingrid Michaelson's song Snowfall (Roswell, Maria/Michael + Max/Liz)
4. Love Asylum, Like an Island - from Hayley Kiyoko's song Feelings (RNM, Isobel/Rosa)
5. Some Kind of Disaster - from All Time Low's song Some Kind of Disaster (RNM, Max/Kyle)

Comfort Characters Meme: What are your top five comfort characters?

Mine are ~
1.
Day 8: Tell me something about the last fandom thing you wrote. Or the last thing you read. Or the last thing you recced. Or all of them.

Roswell New Mexico is the answer to all three! Still hyperfixated a year and change later, which is nice because the fandom is very fun (even though it's mostly on Discord). Max Evans was my original blorbo (see: my icon) but on rewatch, I loved Kyle Valenti even more. And Liz and Maria are two of my favorite female characters on television. Currently working on the last chapter of my Kyle/Max/Liz crack fic where two of them wake up married for a bingo challenge. I have some more Kyle/Max and Maria/Michael/Alex stuff on the back burner.

---

The AO3 DDOS attack kind of freaks me out. It seemed so personal/malicious - someone just wanted AO3 users to feel the pain, and to cause problems for the volunteers/site itself?? And this happening now, after the situation with the volunteers getting CSAM spam?? :( I will probably go and download some of my own fics, maybe cross post them here. I don't have the energy to do that for all of them, but it's worth it to preserve some of my favorites.

---

I've been listening to this album after someone made icon textures for the lyrics, and it's so dreamy and OTP-worthy. Also, maybe I should use bandcamp more.

<a href="https://oceancalling.bandcamp.com/album/quiet-magic">QUIET MAGIC by ocean calling</a>

comments

I keep saying I'm going to use Spotify less and Pandora more, but it's so convenient that Spotify works well with android auto in my car. I like Pandora when I'm at home, but I hardly listen to music when I'm home. Anyway, this year's Spotify wrapped is probably pretty accurate.

Top Five Songs:
1. America from West Side Story
2. Jackie Onassis by Sammy Rae and the Friends
3. Stranger by Riley Roth
4. Season of the Witch by Donovan
5. Jonas Brothers
4. Banks
5. Halsey

It's not too late to get a card from me! Leave a comment at this post or send me a DM with your address :)

I have been binging cheesey Christmas movies because I want to get in the holiday mood, plus I want to watch things that have a happy ending right now. Many of them have been trash (including the one with Mario Lopez called Holiday in Santa Fe even though I love Santa Fe). Some stand outs this year include A Christmas Mystery on HBO Max - I love the intrepid middle schooler who saves the town with her smarts! The whole cast was delightful, actually. And the romcom The Spruces and the Pines, about rival Christmas tree farms and an old grudge, was fun too. The story is VERY tropey but I'm not above a healthy dose of tropes :P

comments

Miranda Lambert came out with a new song called If I Was a Cowboy, and it quickly rose to number one on my makeshift list of very specific songs about women flipping gender around. I put the songs in one place in this post. Am I missing any?

Look at the costumes! Her love interest is a woman! She toes the line between masc and fem, although maybe leans on the fem side, and the lyrics are mostly about just doing whatever the hell you want.

( The other songs I thought of )

comments

I was kind of obsessed with this song as soon as I heard it, and I've been searching for an awesome Thor fanvid to go with it. I think I've found it!! This video also made me consider Steve/Thor because I need some more excellent shield-hammering, thunder-producing fights in my life.

In other news, I do read Loki/Thor now. I'm trash. But I still haven't sorted out my feelings for Thor: Ragnorok. This video may help?? Spoilers within.

comments
